I have been in the industry since 1989 and grew up in the home of a dedicated stock agent and farmer. My career has taken me throughout the North and South Islands and I have enjoyed the great support of my lovely wife Victoria. We have three children named Angus, Alexandra and Jacquetta. My interests include cycling, tennis, the kids' sports (rowing, hockey, rugby, cricket, basketball, gymnastics etc) and rugby.
I joined the Hazlett board in October 2015 and have been board chair since 2016. My background is in Agribusiness and Farm Accounting as a founder of Brown Glassford and Co based in Christchurch. Working with a strong team of very capable people whose aim is to deliver results for farmers has been the focus of my working career and is therefore a strong fit for my role as director of Hazlett Ltd. The farming sector faces unique challenges in relation to climate, fluctuating market prices, environmental and other regulations and those servicing the sector have to understand these issues and be able to deliver solutions. Hazlett does this by having a great team and a wonderful culture and it is a privilege to be involved.
I was brought up on a farm in South Canterbury with my parents’ running livestock broking business Peter Walsh & Associates. I have a Law and Commerce degree from the University of Canterbury. My legal career began at law firm Hesketh Henry as a solicitor in the corporate and commercial team. I now work as an in house lawyer at Bank of New Zealand, while also having had an active role as a director of the family business until the recent purchase by Hazlett. I am looking forward to contributing towards the continued growth and success of Hazlett in my role on the advisory board. Outside of work, I am mad-keen on sports and still an avid cricketer.
