Procurement

Unlike most of the Hazlett team, I was born in the city and never had much to do with agri business or farming until later in life. Please don’t hold that against me! After leaving high school, I joined the New Zealand Army and served in a range of different appointments throughout a 10 year career. I completed my service in 2019 as the Executive Officer of Support Weapons Company, 2nd/1st Battalion. Since leaving the Army, I have continued my career in the logistics and supply chain industry, firstly with a 3PL company based in Auckland and more recently with a mid-Canterbury agricultural engineering company. Outside of work I maintain a healthy obsession with sport - I play rugby and golf at local clubs and I go to live sporting fixtures often. My partner, Hayley, and I also enjoy hiking, spending time at the beach, staying fit & active and adventuring with our 1 year old puppy, Zulu.  

Justin has a background in banking and finance, and joined Hazlett in March 2018. Originally from Invercargill, his family moved around the South Island before ending up in Blenheim. Justin then moved to Christchurch where he has been for over 20 years now. Justin worked in Funding when he first came to Hazlett, but as his role evolved he moved his way through to the Procurement area of the business. The emphasis of his work in the Hazlett Procurement team is on livestock supply chain solutions and joint farming arrangements. In his spare time he enjoys playing both rugby and touch rugby, hitting the gym, walking and outdoor activities including, of course, fishing.

After bouncing around various career paths in my twenties and early thirties, I finally settled into a role as an accountant at the Scenic Hotel Group. Ten years of bed sheets and bathrobe invoices made me realise I needed a change in office scenery, so after taking three months off over the summer of 2024/25, I accepted a position with Hazlett Procurement. My wife, Josie, and I have two teenage sons and a black lab cross. In my spare time, if I’m not walking the dog, I enjoy the relaxing escapism of console gaming or reading and watching murder mysteries and crime thrillers.

I’m married to Murray, and we have two grown children - our son is a self-employed builder based in Christchurch, and our daughter, a support worker at a girls' school, recently got married and is now living in sunny Nelson. We’re also proud “grandparents” to two gorgeous grand fur babies: Zac, a black Labrador Retriever, and Luna, a golden Lab. I grew up in Havelock North and spent many weekends in the Manawatu with family before moving to Christchurch as a teenager. With our wider family involved in both livestock and agriculture, working for Hazlett felt like the perfect fit - it’s great to be part of something that ties back to my rural roots. Outside of work, I’m a proud supporter of Heart Kids, the Heart Foundation, and the Cancer Society - causes close to my heart. We’re also big supporters of New Zealand sport, from national and provincial teams right down to grassroots level, and love cheering on our local heroes whenever we can.
